On the 14th of November, I was lucky enough to accompany a group of our Year 9 and 10 boys to London to the annual ‘Rocking Your Teens’ conference. The event formed part of this year’s ‘Internal Men’s Week’ and was designed to challenge the stereotypes surrounding male identity, share inspirational stories of overcoming physical and mental difficulties and motivate participants. With speakers from the worlds of sport and television on hand to share their stories, the day was engaging and really enjoyable. Motivational speaker, Kamal Hyman, was a hit with the students and his message provided a talking point on the journey home.
As always our students were a delight to take out and provided some really inspirational moments. A big thank you to Stephen Rowland, in Year 10, for winning the school a copy of the #being mankind book, which is packed full of inspirational stories! This was awarded to Stephen as he spoke honestly, authentically and most importantly from the heart about important issues affecting young people and how we need to raise awareness to ensure that they do not face these challenges alone.
