Trafalgar School success as Ofsted rate as GOOD!!!

As you are aware, we were inspected by OFSTED on 2nd and 3rd May and I am absolutely delighted to tell you that Trafalgar School was found to be a ‘Good’ school. The two day process was, quite rightly, very thorough, rigorous and challenging. Over 40 lessons were observed, a range of meetings were held with myself, my senior leadership team, middle leaders, governors and students. Inspectors looked at samples of students work and observed behaviour in lessons and around the school.

The inspectors recognised our journey of rapid improvement over the last 16 months and the significant improvements that have been made in teaching, learning and assessment: ‘a transformation in the quality of teaching and behaviour is strongly evident’. The high expectations leaders and teachers have of all students was commented on frequently as were the strong relationships between teachers and students: ‘strong, respectful relationships between teachers and pupils lead to interesting lessons in which pupils enjoy their learning’. Teacher planning was also identified as a strength: ‘teachers are enthusiastic and they know their pupils well, using their knowledge of pupils’ needs to plan effectively’.

Our school community was described as being ‘like a family’ with our caring ethos running through the school. Student’s behaviour was found to be good in lessons and around the school during unstructured times: ‘Pupils are highly focused in their learning. They appreciate their education, as well as valuing the sensible and respectful behaviour of other pupils’. Bullying was found to be rare, but if it does happen, inspectors were happy that students know it is quickly resolved.

I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved at Trafalgar School in such a short space of time. The report is testament to the hardwork, dedication and commitment of all the staff and I am thrilled that this has been recognised by OFSTED.  I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for putting your trust and faith in me and the school and for your continuing support on our journey to becoming an outstanding school.

There is so much more that can be said which is found in the report –  please take some time to read the full report which can be found on our website in our parent section.  It will also be available on the OFSTED website within the next five days.  A letter will also come home with your child today outlining the above.
