We are very proud to announce that at the Portsmouth Book Award Celebration Event today, Jennifer Haskell in Year 8 was awarded the title of Portsmouth Secondary School Female Reading Champion 2017. Jennifer was up against fierce competition from the other schools and their selected students, but was extremely pleased to have triumphed to be awarded the title.
Jennifer is not just an accomplished reader with a passion for books, but she also contributes her own time in the local community by volunteering at the North End Library and also with the Summer Reading activities. Jennifer is also on hand and likes to support the younger children that attend the library, helping them to develop their reading skills and their enjoyment of different books. Jennifer also gets great enjoyment from recommending books to her peers.
Mrs Genan, our Librarian, who accompanied Jennifer to the awards event said that she was extremely excited and proud when Jennifer’s name was read out and that she thoroughly deserves the accolade.
The award was presented to Jennifer by the winning author of the Portsmouth Book Awards 2017, Stewart Foster. Stewart won the book award for his debut novel ‘The Bubble Boy’ and was an engaging speaker at the event.
